Taryn Simon

10/05/2009

Tayrn Simon photographs the people and places that we would not normally see. Whether it be restricted government areas or people falsely convicted of crimes, her work takes on a new depth when viewed with the text that accompanies it.

You can find a video of her discussing her work here.

So glad you chose to highlight the work of Taryn Simon. I find her work absolutely terrifying – its complex and scary and tragic, and so very intelligent. Another photographer working in the same vein is Simon Norfolk, a British photographer who began his career as a photographer for ultra-leftist publications and has over the last decade created a epic project on war – check his work out here: http://www.simonnorfolk.com/ and great interviews with him here: http://www.lensculture.com/norfolk.html and here: http://bldgblog.blogspot.com/2006/11/warphotography-interview-with-simon.html
