Robert Heinecken- One of my favorite contemporary artists, RIP
“Essentially, the artist decided that in the wake of the media explosion that had come to characterize contemporary life, enough photographs existed in the world. Rather than make more, he would manipulate existing ones. His art became an attempt to clarify, reveal and sometimes confound the subliminal social, political and artistic codes they contain.”
Robert Williams- Usually works with oil painting on canvas, creates pop-surreal paintings. I like to look through his art work, he does crazy imagery and uses lots of detail. He also started or helped start juxtapoz magazine.
The Clayton Brothers- another one of my favorites. They work in Los Angeles and they do collaborative pieces, mixed media. One will work on it, then another will work on it, until they’re finished.
Next up, I also get the monthly magazine, or if I don’t have enough money, sit at Barnes and Noble and look through it, Juxtapoz. They’re all illustrations, drawings, or paintings, but some of the work they show is just crazy and incredible.
